Vocational School

The Tay Linh and Phung Xuan vocational schools need your help and support. Our mission is to provide vocational guidance and educational opportunities for the youth so that they can find a suitable job to support themselves and their families. We depend largely on contributions from dedicated individuals like you to maintain our goal. Now more than ever, please open your heart to the children in need.

Students of sewing class

Tay Linh was established in June 2001. Today, 13 semester courses in computer, civil sewing, embroidery, and knitting have been completed. More than 600 students have graduated. Fortunately, they all found suitable jobs; mostly in sewing and embroidery fields.

Currently, there are 35 students in the civil sewing class, 5 students in the knitting class, and 72 students in the computer class. Embroidery class will start in spring. Computer classes are offered in the afternoon and evening only. There are 10 students living on-campus, 75 students living on and off campus.

The majority of our students are children and youth ages 13 to 18 who are uneducated, physically disabled (deaf, moderately handicapped), orphaned, and poor. We try to help them to have a career so that they can support themselves, lift a burden from their families, and participate in a normal life. Although facing hardship in so many years, our staff still holds on to keep the school running.

Cost to run the school is not cheap. In the beginning, we have had so much support from individuals, private donations, such as Mr. & Mrs. Ha Vinh Tho, doctor Ton That Chieu’s family, doctor To That Han, the “Eyes of Compassion” foundation… Since 2005, we have lost a lot of our support. Now, only doctor To is able to continue to help us.  We are struggling financially. Your continued help is absolutely essential if we are to carry on our mission of providing an education/career for children in difficult circumstances.

“Eyes of Compassion” donates industrial sewing machine to Tay Linh Vocational School

Established on May 2, 1997, Phung Xuan just celebrated its 10th birthday. Its mission is to train and create jobs for children in difficult circumstances in and out local province. Children with disability can also attend classes at Phung Xuan.

In the past 10 years, 18 custom sewing, 3 industrial sewing, 4 general electric, 3 hat-weaving, 4 mushroom-growing courses have been completed.  We are currently training the 19th civil sewing course, and the 4th industrial sewing course.

More than 1,000 students have graduated from Phung Xuan. About 80% of them found stable jobs at the factories, industrial sewing or exported leather footwear plants in Sai Gon, Dong Nai, Hue, Da Nang, and Quang Tri. Of the above 1,000 students, Phung Xuan has provided vocational guidance to 17 disabled students, 7 out-of-state students, and more than 300 minorities.

2006 is our most successful year in the last 9 years.  Here are a few accomplishments:

  • 2 custom sewing courses with 90 students graduated
  • 2 industrial sewing courses with 28 students graduated
  • 4 mushroom-growing courses with 130 students graduated
  • 3 hat weaving courses with 116 students graduated.
  • Students attend school absolutely free.  We provide them free lunches and dinners everyday.  We also provide free housing to out-of- state students. When they’re sick, we send them to the hospitals.  We ask the hospitals not to bill them at all.  If any of them is in extreme difficult circumstances, we ask for additional help. When the charitable mission came to Quang Tri, we introduce them to the children to encourage them financially and spiritually.
  • All expenditures for school were funded by the “Understand and Love” program.  We also got help from many other charitable organizations such as EOCVN.

Phung Xuan vocational school would like to thank you all for your understanding, and donation to the people of Quang Tri. We hope you continue to care and support our school. Our school doors are always open to visitors and charitable organizations.

Wishing Ms. Dieu Lien and all dear benefactors good health and happiness!
